Memorial

This memorial to the poet Shelley was commissioned by his daughter-in-law 80 years after his death.  It was created by the artist Edward Onslow Ford and was originally supposed to sit at Shelley's gravesite in Rome.  It proved to be too large for the grave so Jane Shelley offered the statue to the University College where Shelley went to school before being expelled. The University accepted it along with an endowment to build an appropriate setting for the statue. It's been located at the University since 1893.
