The top of the world

Yesterday I said nothing beats driving the country roads of Colorado but, I'd have to say that taking a cable car to the top of Sass Pordoi in the Dolomites of Italy comes very, very close.  The cable car climbs 2,625 feet (800 meters) to the top with no support pillars in between.  It was an exhilarating ride.

At the top you are 9,678 feet (2950 meters) high and you really do feel like you have arrived at the top of the world.  In the top photo you see the cable car station somewhere about half way on the trip up and the photo just above shows the spectacular view in the direction we've just come.

The views in all directions were breathtaking!

I am so happy you posted these spectacular shots Sharon, because its the only way I'm going to see them :) I would be a total basket case going up in an unsupported cable car that high..it's a curse being afraid of heights :)

What gorgeous views! And it looks like it was cold up there. We took the lift up to the top of the San Francisco Peaks one summer. At the top it was 12,000 feet. Beautiful but not Italy,

Hi Sharon, this place is familiar to me, it is near my area. I was here the last summer.
Beautiful photos of these gorgeous views.

You are a lot braver than I am. I could never ride up there! But you got some priceless pics! I'm happy to look at them from the comfort of my office!

"Exhilarating". Does that mean "scared the hell out of me!"?
