Arizona Mining Town
Main street in Superior Arizona looks a bit ramshackle and deserted but you can't disregard that dramatic mountain backdrop. Superior is a mining town with copper mines just a few miles away. The town itself is a little run down but there are still quite a lot of residents to keep things going.
The La Mina bar is still open for business.
In spite of the town's downtrodden look, I still found some large and dramatic homes within the city. The one above has a huge balcony and an artistic mural painted along the front.

I think there is a proposal to open a new mine near Superior that would certainly revitalize the town, but it requires action by Congress for a federal land exchange.
Not surprisingly, there have been years of delay in Congress.
That made me think of the copper mines where we lived in Zambia.. Central Africa! I hope the proposal goes through and Superior lives up to its name again Sharon..
Fantastic photos, Sharon! Hard to believe that anything is going on here. I never got to Superior but it looks like an interesting place to visit. That's quite a house in the last photo. What would one do in Superior?
I was surprised at how Superior looked the last time we went through. It looks almost like a ghost town in your picture.
Would love to be there to take some photos myself. Love the look of towns like these.

I love this town and taking photos of all the interesting buildings around town especially the abandoned ones.
These mining towns have some interesting photos to capture and also history to read about. That house with the mural is really great.
What a place! I love La Mina building.
What a lonely looking place.
The main road says it all! What a road map!
Living in Superior must require more than one skill...
